If you're one of those who only washes your face when it feels oily, or washes your face multiple times a day to prevent it from being oily, then you must change your daily habits now! And if you're one of those who buy into anti-aging face cleansers, do so with caution . . .
It's all about balance
You should wash your face twice a day - once in the morning and one at night. However, we strongly advise against washing your face more than that. A common misconception is that washing your face often helps prevent acne/oily skin the best. But your face actually needs some oil content to keep it hydrated. In fact, when your face is deprived of oil, your body will send signals to your hormone glands to trigger more!
Temperature is key
Warm water is the best temperature to use when cleansing your face. Warm water removes oil most effectively and hydrates as well.
Beware cleansers w/ anti-aging promises
Many cleansers stress that they have anti-aging, whitening, face-lifting functions, but the truth is, the only purpose of a cleanser is to cleanse. Their main function is to simply remove dirt and excess oils off your face. The ingredients in anti-aging cleansers get washed off your face before it has time to penetrate your pores and work their magic. That said, don't get too caught up in the idea of an anti-aging face-wash.
Now you know the basics of how to effectively wash your face. Next week, we will reveal how you can choose the best cleanser for your unique skin type!
